Murfreesboro is up to ears in mulch

Murfreesboro Solid Waste Director Joey Smith says he has 9,000 cubic yards of mulch to give away and is inviting the public to come get it.

The department is located at 4765 Florence Rd. and is open from 6 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

But best visit when it’s daylight, he warned. When available, his employees will help load the mulch but they have to be able to see it first.

Starting Friday, March 1, he added, he will begin his annual double ground mulch give-a-way.

“Some of that is almost like dirt when it comes out,” he said. “It’s very finely ground.”

The double-ground mulch won’t last long though, he said. When offered last year, the supply didn’t last out the month.

“It’s available until we run out,” he said. “Last year it lasted until around March 27.”
