Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department Capt. Nora Smith, Capt. Terry Smith, and Capt. Clay Walls were named the STARS award recipients for February 2013.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department Capt. Nora Smith, Capt. Terry Smith, and Capt. Clay Walls were named the STARS award recipients for February 2013, the City of Murfreesboro announced.

On December 16, 2012, Nora Smith’s crew responded to a kitchen fire where Smith noticed the occupants of the home appeared to be experiencing some economic struggles.

The trio of firefighters were nominated for their compassion for the struggling family.

“It is not surprising that the selected personnel took it upon themselves to make a difference in someone’s life. I am proud of all of our employees in this department and their dedication to serving our community,” MFRD Chief Cumby Gaines said.

Throught the STARS program, Murfreesboro wishes to recognize employees that go above and beyond what is expected to provide top quality service for both internal and external customers.

As part of the award, Smith, Smith and Walls will each receive $25 and one day of annual leave.

Nora Smith, Terry Smith and Walls were recognized at the March 7 meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council. A copy of their award ceremony can be found on the City’s website.
