For the 14th year in a row, the Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Murfreesboro by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
The Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting (CAFR) is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents the highest and best among government and management accomplishments.
“We are very proud to have received this award for the 14th consecutive year,” Murfreesboro City Recorder and Tax and Finance Department Director Melissa Wright said. “We appreciate our auditing firm, Jobe, Hastings & Associates, for its guidance in assisting with the report preparation.”
An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (AFRA) was also awarded to the individual designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.
A commemorative plaque will be mailed to Mrs. Wright, recognizing her for her leadership in the achievement.
City Manager Rob Lyons said the award demonstrates the city’s dedication to financial excellence.
“The GFOA award shows the City’s commitment to excellence in our finances,” he said. “The diligence, attention to detail and adherence to sound accounting principles ensures that we continue to manage the public’s money in the best manner possible.”
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Ill. and Washington, D.C.
