Two Murfreesboro athletes are headed to the USA Gymnastics National Championships in May.
Eleven-year-old Rebecca Addison Wells and 17-year-old Jasmine Arnold have qualified for the Level 9 Nationals in Michigan May 3 and Level 10 Nationals in Minnesota May 10, respectively.
The two girls took home numerous titles at the USAG Regionals in Mississippi on April 13.
Wells went home as the regional Vault Champion, also scoring third on bars, ninth on floor, and fourth all around.
“When Rebecca Addison came to our gym last June of 2012, she had some great basics, but she’s learned so much this past year,” said Elite Energy Gym Head Coach Greg Dietz. “Her skills have just grown exponentially.”
Level 10 USAG Regional Champion Jasmine Arnold has been with Elite Energy since she was 3 years old, Dietz said. She placed fourth on vault, fourth on beam, ninth on floor, and third all around at the competition.
Two other Elite Energy gymnasts have something big to celebrate:
• Nine-year-old Riley Griffith earned the title of Regional Vault Champion in the Level 7 division and placed sixth all-around.
• Sydney Sykes, 16, also placed sixth on floor at regionals.
Dietz has 20 years of experience in the sport. He’s coached at regional and national champions and has coached athletes from the 2004 and 2008 Olympic trials. He’s even trained athletes that have appeared in the gymnastics movie Stick It and performed with Cirque du Soleil.
