Sounds of a ringing bell echoed 15 times when Murfreesboro Fire Department remembered Friday the victims killed from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Capt. Mark McCluskey rang the bell to signify the passage a firefighter killed on duty returning to heaven, said Assistant Chief Allen Swader.

Firefighters, Murfreesboro City Council and police gathered for event. The brief ceremony outside the fire department headquarters memorialized the emergency workers, members of the armed services and civilians killed in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., Swader said. They will never be forgotten.

Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg said the sad occasion honored the brave men and women who serve every day on the city, state and federal levels of government.

In the spirit of patriotism, Bragg asked people to join together and be mindful of the blessings and freedoms Americans enjoy and share.
