Police have identified the driver who died Saturday night in a crash on Riverview Drive in Murfreesboro.

Knoxville resident Xavier C. Bingham, 25, was killed just before 9 p.m. when the 2010 Ford Mustang he was driving crashed into a tree in the 1600 block of Riverview Drive, according to officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

“The driver was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Sgt. Kyle Evans, public information officer for the Police Department.

A passenger, Emmanuel Wallace, was also seriously injured in the crash.

The 19-year-old Clarksville resident was transported via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Evans said.

“Wallace remains in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt,” he said.

The Fatal Accident Crash Team is still investigating the cause of the wreck, which did not involve any other vehicles.

This is the second traffic fatality that has occurred within the Murfreesboro city limits since the first of the year.

On Feb. 5, 20-year-old Timothy Martin, who was a Middle Tennessee State University student, died after being struck by a car as he walked across North Rutherford Boulevard.
