Shots rang out Saturday in Murfreesboro after a party ended at the National Guard Armory.

Jerry Lee Alexander, 19, of Thistlebend Court, Cordell M. Grissom, 19 of Wenlon Drive, and William Q. Smith, 19, of Indian Park Drive, were arrested around 11:30 Saturday night after Murfreesboro Police caught up with the trio off Memorial Boulevard.

Witnesses said the suspects fired a weapon from the backseat of a silver Chevy Impala, which then went to Dodge’s Store on Broad Street. No one was injured in the shooting.

In a statement to police, Alexander said the men had been in a fight at the armory earlier in the evening.

“He received a phone call, from his ‘boss’ in the gang, and he was told to go back to the armory and ‘air it out,” MPD Detective Tannas Knox reported.

Alexander then admitted to firing shots out of the rear passenger-side window of the Impala and heading to Dodge’s Store.

Witnesses from the armory saw the Impala at the convenience store and called police, who caught up with the shooters at East Clark Boulevard and Hodge Street.

A search of nearby property located a .45 caliber handgun in the yard of a home.

Alexander threw the handgun out of the rear passenger-side window after the suspects saw a police car following them, he admitted. None of the suspects admitted to owning the gun.

A search of the car allegedly turned up evidence of gang affiliation.

Alexander was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and his bond was set at $20,000. Grissom was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon with a bond of $5,000. Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon with a bond of $500.

Alexander, Grissom and Smith will appear in court May 3.
