EUGENE, Ore. - Eliud Rutto and Emmanuel Tugumisirize each raced to different ends on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Hayward Field Wednesday.
Rutto finished with the fourth-fastest time (1:48.57) in his heat and qualified for the NCAA finals in the 800-meter after registering the second-fastest non-automatic qualifying time. The third heat of the 800 tallied four of the eight qualifying spots for the finals with Mississippi State's Brandon McBride registering the fastest time in the semifinal round (1:48.09).
Tugumisirize ended his senior season with a 21st-place finish in the 400-meter (47.05) and the seventh-best time in his heat. Oregon's Mike Berry won the heat with the third-fastest time overall (45.41), while Deon Lendore of Texas A&M notched the quickest time in the 400 (45.18).
Rutto is scheduled to race in the 800-meter finals on Friday at 7:15 p.m., while Cordairo Golden is slated to compete in the triple jump at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
