IRVING, Texas - Sophomore Avery George of the MTSU women's golf team was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday.
This marks George's second C-USA weekly award as she earned the honor Oct. 9. The accolade comes after she finished third at the UALR Classic March 24-25 and led the Blue Raiders to the team title.
The Cleveland, Tenn., native paced MTSU in both the first and second rounds, carding a 75 and a 76, respectively. She posted a 73 in the final round and took home third-place honors with a total score of 224. As a team, Middle Tennessee shot a 921, nine strokes ahead of second place as the Raiders topped the 17-team field.
"I'm really proud of the way Avery (George) is stepping up and playing," said MTSU head coach Chris Adams. "She is really making great decisions on the course, which is leading to the low scores she's shooting. She is very deserving of this honor."
George and the rest of the Blue Raiders return to action March 30-April 1, traveling to Stockbridge, Ga., to compete in the 21st annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State at Eagle's Landing Country Club.
