MTSU parking garage referendum falls flat

MTSU students won’t be parking in a garage on campus anytime soon.

In campus-wide elections last week, the student body voted against the "All-Access Campus Improvement Plan” by a mere 380 votes, Sidelines reported today.

The campus improvement plan would provide for “continuous improvements throughout the campus to improve and expand the physical facilities for greater efficiency, convenience and safety for students,” according to the initiative’s Web site.

The improvements would’ve been funded by student fees, which would be raised over the next five years until they reached $60 per semester.

The administration hoped to build a 830-space parking garage, improve MTSU Boulevard and expand the reach of the Raider XPress, as well as construct a new entrance off of Greenland Drive.

The university came under fire in February for spending $10,000 for advertising, when the school is looking at a 20 percent budget reduction in the next fiscal year.

So the faculty parking garage failed again. They have been trying for that one since I was going there in '93. Way to go students, you saw through the smoke screen.

Did not know this was for benefit of faculty. If so, a bad idea was worse than I thought.
