The MTSU Department of Economics and Finance will host guest lecturer David R. Henderson at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the State Farm Room inside the Business and Aerospace Building.

Henderson will give a lecture titled “How Economists Helped End the Draft.” Henderson is an associate professor of economics at the Naval Postgraduate School and a research fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution. He also blogs at the site EconLog (http://econlog.econlib.org).

The lecture, which is open to the public, will last about an hour, with 15 minutes afterward for questions from the audience.

Dr. Michael Hammock, assistant professor of economics at MTSU, said the department started hosting such guest speakers last year as part of a lecture series to promote a better understanding of economics.

“In particular, we want people to understand the variety of topics that economists study — it’s not all about money — and how markets work,” he said.
