MTSU Chorale to take Manhattan

MTSU’s Women's Chorale will perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall for the 70th anniversary of Shawnee Press Gala Concert on Saturday night.

MTSU Chorale director Jamila McWhirter said the group might also perform live on CBS’s The Early Show that morning. The Early Show airs on Nashville’s WTVF Channel 5+ from 8-10 a.m.

The group will also be performing a mass and a concert at St. Malachy's Church in the Broadway district on Friday morning.

In celebration of their 70th Anniversary, Shawnee Press will present the concert at Carnegie Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday to honor founder and radio personality Fred Waring and showcase the talents of award‐winning choral composers, arrangers, and artists from around the country in a special performance of some of America’s best choral works.

Distinguished Concerts Singers International, comprised of auditioned choirs from around the country including the group from MTSU, will perform under the direction of Conductor Laureate Timothy Seelig. The singers will perform such well‐loved choral/orchestral numbers as Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful, and Swingin’ With the Saints.

Additional repertoire will include special arrangements of choral works made by award‐winning music composers, arrangers, and guest artists, Mark Hayes, Greg Gilpin, and Joseph Martin.
