A group of organizational communication students at MTSU developed a vision to sponsor a band to perform in an International VSA program and will hold a benefit concert for Lake Rise Place.
Lake Rise Place will represent the State of Tennessee at the VSA (Vision, Artistic expression and Strength) International Arts Festival in Washington D.C. in June.
Lake Rise Place was only one of 28 acts in the world to be selected to perform at this international festival. They will be the first representatives from Tennessee to participate in the VSA International Arts Festival.
The Benefit concert will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, April 5 in the Tennessee Room of the James Union Building. The community and the media are welcome. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Concessions will be sold during the event.
The MTSU Organizational Communities class decided to offer this concert as a class project in order to raise funds to help defray travel expenses so this jazz/pop trio can participate in the festival. The funds will be given to VSA arts Tennessee who will provide the travel arrangements.
Nick Sharp, The Riker Project and Lake Rise Place will all perform at the concert.
VSA arts Tennessee’s mission is “To provide opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in and express themselves through the arts and arts education.” For more information visit the website at www.vsaartstennessee.org.
