Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) program has received designation as a Clinical Center of Excellence by Bard Vascular Access Systems, and was one of only seven sites chosen across the nation to provide PICC training.

Bard Vascular Access is a primary supplier of PICC equipment and supplies and is a leader in vascular access technology.

MTMC was selected for its high number of PICC line placements with outstanding success rates and very low complication rates. MTMC has a full service PICC team which places 80-100 PICCs per month.

“We have a very experienced team with extensive training and credentials in vascular access and infusion nursing,” said Caleb Kent, nurse manager for IV Therapy, Rapid Response and Central Monitoring Unit. “This experience and education is important because, along with this distinction, we will be training other nurses from around the country on best practices related to vascular access and infusion nursing.”

All of MTMC’s PICC nurses are members of the Infusion Nurses Society and/or Association for Vascular Access. A majority of the PICC nurses are certified by the Infusion Nurses
Credentialing Center and have received the distinction of Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) and remain current on the newest advances in vascular access. The MTMC PICC service has a very high success rate (99.4 percent), a very low complication rate (<1 percent), and provides PICC insertions 7 days a week.
