Middle Tennessee Medical Center recently held a breakfast in honor of the hospital Volunteers.
The 2009 Volunteer Appreciation and Award Ceremony recognized the outstanding service the volunteers provide to the hospital. These volunteers unselfishly donate extensive hours to MTMC through many different types of service.
“MTMC views our volunteers as an integral part of the organization and we are grateful for their dedication to the MTMC ministry,” said Gordon B. Ferguson, president & CEO of MTMC. “They provide a great service to our patients and to the community.”
The Daughters of Charity Volunteer Service Award is the highest honor presented to a Volunteer. This year, MTMC presented the award to Betty Ruth Graham. During her five-year career as a volunteer, Graham has achieved more than 4,000 hours by working three days a week. Also recognized at the ceremony was Sara Turner who received the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award. Turner has touched both patients and staff through her service at MTMC since 2000.
Many volunteers have reached outstanding levels of service hours during their years at the hospital: Betty Ruth Graham, 4,000 hours; Brenda Stacy, 5,000 hours; Judy Overall, 15,000 hours. A total of 15,827 hours were given during the 2009 calendar year by 130 volunteers.
The volunteers are invaluable resources to the operations of the hospital. They are faithful to MTMC and an important asset to the organization. Several volunteers also work from home, creating caps and Christmas stockings for newborn babies, teddy bears and quilts.
