Middle Tennessee Medical Center has put the finishing touch on its new campus on Medical Canter Parkway.
Named after Elizabeth Ann Seton, the new building was part of the vision set forth by MTMC’s administrators nearly 10 years ago, according to Gordon B. Ferguson, president and CEO.
Services that were once spread out among several buildings at the original campus will now be centrally located within the newly constructed Seton medical office building, which is located at 1840 Medical Center Parkway adjacent to the new hospital.
Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC, Cardiac Rehab and Pulmonary Rehab, The Wellness Center at MTMC, the Bariatric Center at MTMC – a designated Center of Excellence – and Wound Care Center at MTMC are all currently moved in and open for business.
Several others will be joining them, including Cancer Center at MTMC, Center for Breast Health at MTMC, Outpatient Stroke Center, Middle Tennessee Imaging - Murfreesboro, Tennessee Oncology and The Back and Neck Pain Center.
While the Seton building completes the new campus, Ferguson said MTMC is fortunate to have enough land if something comes up in the future, but right now the hospital is finished with construction.
“Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC continues to advance its cardiac program as physicians from Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC, outpatient cardiac imaging and diagnostics and cardiac rehab will soon be located within the same building and more convenient for patients,” an MTMC news release states.
“The Saint Thomas Heart Cardiac Imaging Center is expected to be open by the end of January as new equipment is delivered over the next few weeks. This will allow many outpatient cardiac imaging procedures, such as nuclear and exercise stress testing and cardiac and vascular ultrasounds to be done nearby while in the physician office.”
Dr. G. Britton Mioton, a cardiologist who is among four board-certified cardiologists specializing in intervention, electrophysiology, congestive heart failure and nuclear cardiology with Saint Thomas Heart at MTMC, explained how the new building will provide a full-service outpatient practice.
“We’re adding and relocating some of our state-of-the-art equipment,” Mioton said. “We’ll have more space and we’re improving the overall experience for our patients, staff and physicians.”
The Cancer Center at MTMC and Center for Breast Health will be relocated from the Bell Street Building on the old campus to the Seton Medical Office Building. They are scheduled to open on Jan. 23 and will hold a separate grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony.
Additionally, the new Cancer Center will provide the latest technology in the treatment of cancer with:
• Large bore CT scanner, allows imaging for every size patient;
• Two linear accelerators, made possible in part by the Christy-Houston Foundation;
• More precise targeting for radiation therapy;
• Capability for respiratory gating, adjusting radiation according to the patient’s breathing cycles; and
• Capability for stereotactic radiosurgery.
“We’re excited to see our full vision for the new MTMC come to fruition and look forward to now having everything on one campus,” Ferguson explained.
“We do still have a presence at our old campus location in the Bell Street Building with the Dispensary of Hope and the Saint Louise Clinic, which provides walk-in health care services primarily to the underinsured and uninsured.”
Construction of the Seton Medical Office Building, the second medical office building on the MTMC campus began in November 2010. Johnson Development, based in Birmingham, Ala., is the developer for the new 112,434-square-foot, four-story building, and Turner Universal Construction, based in Brentwood, Tenn. is the construction manager. The Seton Building is connected to the hospital’s first and second floors through a two-level walkway connector. It is located adjacent to the DePaul Medical Office Building, which is also located on the MTMC campus.
The Seton Medical Office Building is named after Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, a widow with five children, who founded the Sisters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Md., in 1809, later uniting with the Daughters of Charity in Paris, France in 1850. She is the first American-born saint. |
