MT softball runs winning-streak to four

The Blue Raiders extended their winning streak to four games, defeating the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 4-2. Middle Tennessee moves to 9-16 on the season, including a 3-3 mark in conference.

Middle Tennessee took a 3-0 lead in the third, scoring three runs off four hits and a Gamecock error. Nina Davenport struck first for the Blue Raiders, singling to right to plating Kayla Toney from third. Corrie Abel then tallied her 16th and 17th RBIs of the season three plays later on a left center single. Kristi Marquez and Davenport scored on the play. The Blue Raiders led 3-0 after three.

Toney stretched out the lead to three runs in the fourth, bringing home Natalie Ysais for her 11th run batted in of the season.

Jordyn Fisherback was lights out in her fifth win of the season. The Greenville, Ohio native went the distance, giving up just two earned runs on four hits. She struck out three and walked one.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was called after just one inning due to rain.

After spotting the Gamecocks two in the top of first, Kaycee Popham got the Blue Raiders within one, blasting a deep double to centerfield. Abel came home from first after walking earlier in the inning. MT trailed 2-1 after one.
