After taking home the Sun Belt regular season championship last weekend, the Middle Tennessee volleyball team will play host to the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament this weekend at Alumni Memorial Gym.

The event will feature the top eight finishers in conference play and will begin on Thursday. Regular season runner-up Western Kentucky will take on UL-Lafayette in the opener at noon, and FIU is set to face Denver at 2:30 p.m. Top-ranked Middle Tennessee will battle it out with South Alabama at 5:00 p.m.. The final match-up of the day features the top two teams in the Sun Belt West, pitting division champion Arkansas State against North Texas at 7:30 p.m..

This year's tournament marks the first trip to Murfreesboro since the 2005 season.

Historically, the Blue Raiders have been very successful in the event, taking home three of the last four championships and earning the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Middle Tennessee will be looking to extend their recent hot streak as well. In addition to winning the conference regular season title last weekend, the Blue Raiders extended their winning streak to eight matches and have now won 22 of their last 23. In Monday's AVCA Top 25 Poll, MT picked up 10 points to place 35th among all vote-getters. It marks the fifth week this year that Middle Tennessee has earned multiple votes in the poll, and the first time since October 11.

The Blue Raiders and South Alabama are set to square off in first round action at 5:00 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Gym. Tickets for the Sun Belt Tournament are available at the gate or through the MT Athletic Ticket Office. Single day tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under, and three-day tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children. Admission is free for students of a Sun Belt institution with a valid school ID.
