Once again MTSU’s Campus Recreation Center will be hosting a SCUBA trip during Spring Break. This time our sights are set on beautiful Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, March 6-13. This is a great opportunity for members of the community to participate in an affordable trip, benefit from group rates, and get real hands-on experience diving in the ocean.
The best part is that even if you are not currently certified in SCUBA, it is not too late to start working on your certification! Through a partnership with Cornerstone SCUBA, you can complete the required classes and then, on the first day of the trip, perform the required open-water dives to complete your certification in Curacao. Then you will be free to enjoy the rest of the dives during the remainder of the trip with the group.
“Curacao is well known for its beautiful diving locations,” said Ray Wiley, trip coordinator and Assistant Director of MTSU Campus Recreation. “With 80-120 feet of visibility, and its abundant aquatic life, you are sure to see some of the most amazing underwater sights on the planet. The healthy reefs there are teeming with large schools of fish and seahorses, and the night dive is sure to amaze with the nocturnal creatures that come out to greet you: crab, lobster, and sea urchins just to name a few.”
The cost of the trip is $1,150 per person for students and $1,350 for all guests. This price includes resort accommodations, 2 meals per day, five days of 2-tank boat dives, one night dive, unlimited shore diving, tanks and weights, reef and chamber fees and exit taxes. There are also two spots available for non-divers at a reduced rate of $1,050. All rooms are double occupancy (private rooms are available for an additional fee).
Trip participants must possess a current passport, a Scuba C card that is recognized internationally such as PADI or NAUI, driver’s license, insurance card, and a DAN card. You must also make arrangements for your own airfare and diving equipment (with the exception of tanks and weights – these items are provided).
Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure! For more information on how you can become certified in SCUBA or any questions you may have about the trip, contact Ray Wiley at (615) 898-5701.
