As I have driven around town, I have noticed the effort many have gone to in decorating for the holidays.
So below, I am listing Mrs. Murfreesboro’s top 10 favorite outdoor decorations – as SHE sees it.
1) The Rutherford County Courthouse.
It is pretty anyway, but beautiful with the lights strung around it ... especially with the tree lit.
Someone had to plan well to make it look “just right.” It really makes a statement at night.
2) Civic Hall Plaza.
The lighting on the trees is so well done and the banners all around are so festive. Another beautiful nighttime treat.
3) The home of Ashley O’Brien and Jonathon Fagan at 110 South Bilbro. This house is cute by itself with the cutwork, but the owners have enhanced the color of the door (a subtle brownish/gold) with a tasteful gold wreath and hung roping around the white picket fence. Makes you want to stroll right in. 4) 224 Bridge Ave, home of Doris and Harvey Newman.
I loved this house when I drove by last year, and it didn’t disappoint again. Mrs. Newman says that decorating is a family affair, and all members participate. There’s even a wreath over the garage door and you can see that all the greenery has been “fluffed up” well by loving hands.
5) The home of Marilyn and Larry Castelli, 425 East Main Street.
Larry Castelli is a talented interior designer, and his wonderful taste also spills out onto the exterior, too. Live magnolia leaves and other greens line the arched doorway. If you’ve ever tried to make a rope of greenery, you know how much work it is. And as beautiful as it is, you can tell this is a place where children are welcome, too, because Santa Claus peeps at you from a front window.
6) The home of Angela and Evan Satterfield at 519 Bethany Circle (Victory Pointe subdivision).
This house has just the right amount of lights and the right amount of decoration, in my opinion. The tree beside the front door is perfectly “dressed,” and everything is “fluffed out” perfectly too. My favorite accents are the deer on the roof. I’m sure Mr. Satterfield made a lot of trips up and down the ladder to make sure those deer were “just right.”
7) And speaking of trips up and down the ladder, many were made by Mike Wallace, owner of the tastefully decorated house at 2262 Oakleigh Drive. This house and separate garage have just the right amount of white lights, with two splashes of red just to make sure you notice. His neighbor Mike Etheridge also lit shrubs around a pond between both houses. Very pretty.
8) The decorations at Walnut & Vine Antiques (203 W. Vine St.). Their decor changes daily, depending on weather and what they have to sell, but it is charming and inviting.
9) The windows (and interior) of Ray Hines and Company, which has two locations doors away from each other on the South side of the Square.
The interiors are beautifully decorated, too, and if you haven’t been in the Christmas spirit, visiting here would put you there.
10) And last, but not least, the windows at Appleton’s Creative Framers, 124 N. Spring St.
Owner Bill Brison knows how to dress windows. This year’s include his own artwork, but the windows themselves are art in its best form.
Again, these might not be the “brightest and best,” but they are the results of efforts of talented, hard-working individuals who chose to spend money and time spreading joy for the holidays. Thanks for sharing.
‘Til next week.
