MPD investigating Eagle Street shooting

Murfreesboro Police Department released the following statement about a shooting Friday night:

On Saturday May 22, 2010 at 12:08 a.m. Murfreesboro Police responded to 1401 Eagle Street in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered that two adult males had been shot and a third was injured by debris. The shooting occurred in front of the residence.

One victim was transported by Rutherford County EMS and the second gunshot victim was
transported by private vehicle, both to Middle Tennessee Medical Center. One victim was later transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center by ambulance. The third victim (minor injuries caused by being struck by debris) was transported to MTMC after being released from the scene. The condition of the other two shooting victims is unknown at this time.

A police K9 officer responded to the scene and began a track, however lost track several blocks away.

One person died as a result of the shooting. The victims are listed below:

• Nathan Morgan Jr. (5-7-86, Murfreesboro) [Pronounced dead.]

• Louis Sweeny (2-25-73, Nashville) [Transported to Vanderbilt Hospital with serious injuries.]

• Byrus Hughes (Riviera Drive, Murfreesboro) [Minor injuries from debris.]

At this time there is no suspect information to release. If anyone has information regarding this homicide, they should call Criminal Investigations at (615) 893-2717.
