Murfreesboro City Council agreed to buy the police department a new patrol car to replace one that was totaled in a crash earlier this month.

MPD needed to replace a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, which was totaled in a Jan. 14 crash involving an officer. Officer Matthew Garrett was driving his patrol car on Northwest Broad Street when the Jeep turned into his path and the patrol car T-boned the jeep.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol ruled the crash was not the officer's fault and MPD expects the other driver's insurance to reimburase the cost of replacing the patrol car.

The new 2010 Crown Vic with sirens and lights will cost more than $22,500 with the money coming from the city’s Risk Management Fund, which is used as a self-insurance fund.

Council also extended a “no rent” lease it has with the Rutherford County Child Advocacy Center. In exchange for the CAC maintaining the property and paying utilities, the city looks after the exterior and roof of the building.

The departments did start to go to chargers, now after having to work on them all the time they are going back to the Crown Vic. The Chargers look good they just dont hold up well.
