A mother was accused of shoplifting about $200 worth of property and concealing some in her son’s diaper bag Wednesday at Wal-Mart on Old Fort Parkway, a Murfreesboro Police officer reported.

Mother Ashley N. Wardlow, 22, of Nashville, was charged with shoplifting, Officer Tamara Jensen reported.

Wal-Mart security officer Matt Renegar accused the mother of taking two pairs of jeans, three swimsuits and three dickies from the store. The merchandise was valued at $197.47.

“We found more items that were hidden in her 2-year-old son’s diaper bag,” Jensen reported.

Wardlow is a former Wal-Mart employee. She is unemployed.

Department of Children’s Services employees were called to take care of her child while she was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set Aug. 12 in General Sessions Court.

In an unrelated case, victim Nelson Vaught of Bluff Avenue reported he saw a man steal items out of his truck parked in front of McFadden School Sunday on Bridge Avenue and take the items to the playground, Officer James Smith reported.

Vaught found his computer and an end table broken at the playground but did not file a police report because he didn’t know who the suspect was. Vaught noticed the man again on the playground Wednesday and notified police.

Smith and Officer Brian Anderson approached the suspect identified as William Bledsoe who gave a statement about taking the property, Smith reported.

Bledsoe, 19, of 618 Old Salem Road was charged with auto burglary and vandalism. His hearing is set Sept. 2 in General Sessions Court.

Save money. Live better. Wal-Mart. Sounds like she was trying to save just a little bit too much money.
