Siegel High School will conduct a mock disaster/drill and car crash at 12:15 p.m. beginning with an assembly and moving about 1 p.m. to the parking lot behind the football field.
School Resource Officer Sgt. Irvin Turner said the crash will simulate a crash caused by a distracted driver. In the mock crash, one person dies and other people suffer injuries.
SROs are hoping the demonstration will show traffic crashes increases from distracted driving.
“Car crashes are the leading cause of death of children in our country,” Sgt. Turner said. “Distracted drivers are four times more likely have accidents while driving.”
Emergency vehicles are expected to respond to the scene. LifeFlight helicopter is expected to respond.
The event will be filmed for training.
