| Murfreesboro’s historic downtown will welcome some new faces in the coming weeks with the opening of several new shops.
PJs Pizza is slated to open its doors June 27 next to Maple Street Grill, replacing The Chef’s Place.
Owner David Parcha says this mom and pop pizza shop will feature quality pizza, subs and ice cream. Named after his son, a U.S. Air Force parachute rescue jumper (PJ), the new restaurant offers local residents Michigan-style pizza with lots of cheese and toppings, along with homemade dough and sauce.
Rest assured, Julio Orantes, formerly of The Chef Place, will still offer his catering skills and can be contacted at 615-895-CHEF.
Search PJs Pizza on Facebook to find out updated information about renovations and menu options.
Across the Square, another new restaurant is working to open its doors, but this one caters to those with a sweet tooth.
Boro Town Cakes will offer breakfast, lunch and dessert options beginning July 1, according to owner Karen Stoltz.
The bakery is located at 127 N. Church St., formerly Sisco’s Beauty Shop.
Stoltz has been baking and decorating cakes for more than 30 years, but primarily as a hobby and for friends and family. When her daughter, Laura, went off to college, Stoltz decided bake full time.
“I had jury duty back in February, and even though I love Maple Street Grill, B. McNeel’s and Marina’s, they’re all places you have to sit down, and we didn’t have a lot of time (for lunch),” she said.
This prompted her to provide express breakfast – quiche, muffins, cheese danishes – and lunch – chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches and turkey wraps – options in addition to all things cake.
Stoltz encourages her customers to suggest some of their favorite dishes as possible menu options.
“I’m modeling this bakery after a bakery back home in North Carolina … I’d like to bring in some people’s favorites from their hometown, too,” she said.

While two new faces are joining the Square, one familiar shop is saying goodbye to Murfreesboro.
Anastasia’s Boutique is going in a different direction – towards Franklin, owner Ivelisse Martin said.
A resident of Franklin, Martin is adding another member to her family and wants to be a bit closer to home.
Anastasia’s Boutique, which opened more than a year ago, will be around for two more weeks. In the meantime, everything in the shop is on sale, from jewelery to clothes to furniture.
Refer to anastasiasboutique.blogspot.com for updated information about the shop’s relocation to Franklin or stop in the boutique, located near Marina’s on the Square.
