Kelly Miles has been named chief nursing officer for Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC). She officially assumes her new responsibilities on Sept. 6, 2011. As chief nursing officer, Miles will work with the senior leadership team, implementing strategic plans and objectives, while also developing and maintaining patient-centered care initiatives in collaboration with the MTMC medical staff and hospital nursing staff. Miles, who has more than 14 years of experience in hospital leadership at well-known medical centers and 25 years of nursing experience, has served as vice president, chief nursing officer, consultant and other nursing executive roles throughout her career. “We are very fortunate to have attracted someone with the experience and accomplishments Kelly has and she will help guide MTMC as we continue to provide the best possible care to our patients,” said Gordon B. Ferguson, president and CEO of MTMC. “I know she is truly excited about returning home to Tennessee where she began her nursing career. She is a great addition to our senior leadership team.” Miles joins MTMC after serving as vice president and chief nursing officer for Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, a non-profit, 700-bed academic medical center in Jacksonville, Fla., affiliated with the University of Florida. She has held that role for nearly six years and previously held positions as the hospital’s senior director of operations and senior director of case management. Her accomplishments include improving patient and employee outcomes, advancing the nursing profession and leading the hospital to achieve Magnet designation. Over the course of her career, Miles has also worked for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Columbia Healthcare Network, Physician Network Management and Aetna Health Plans, all in Nashville, Tenn. Miles serves on the CMS Task Force for the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She is also on the board of directors for Community Hospice Northeast Florida and was elected for two terms to serve as a regional director for the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives. A registered nurse in Tennessee and Florida, Miles is board certified in advanced nursing administration. She has a master’s degree in nursing from University of Phoenix and earned her bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in nursing from Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn. Miles is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International. |
