Many community organizations and individuals are using The Murfreesboro Post’s interactive Calendar of Events. Others are unaware of the free service.
It’s an easy way of publicizing upcoming events both large and small.
So how do you do it?
First, log onto murfreesboropost.com and select “Calendar” from the drop down “Interactive” menu listing at the top left of the Web page.
You will see the “month” view of the Calendar.
To add a listing, just click on “Submit Event.” You must be a registered Post reader to enter a calendar item.
Then it is just a matter of filling in the blanks for date and time. Type in your event name (make it short) and select your event category (general, etc.) You can then either type in or cut and paste a long description of your event. You can, if you choose, add an event graphic (make it small) and a link to an appropriate Web site. Then hit “Submit” and you are all done. There is no charge for posting to the interactive Calendar, but advertisements are not allowed. Thanks!

While we are on the Web topic, frequently I get e-mails from site users wanting to change their user name, password or make some changes to their profile on murfreesboropost.com.
If you want to change your user name, you are going to have to e-mail me to make the change. The reason for that is obvious, if you think about it.
But changing things like your password, e-mail address or user profile is easy.
Right below The Murfreesboro Post header is a line of type that includes a welcome, the number of members online, the date and the words “My Account.”
Click on “My Account” and you will see an “Edit My Profile” menu that shows your name, zip code, etc. All of that is editable. The only required items are your zip code, gender and year of birth.
Look right under “Edit My Profile” and you will see the underlined phrase “change my password.”
The password change requires your current password and then asks you to type in your new one twice. Easy, just like just about every Web site in the world.
One of our most frequently asked questions is “why don’t I get my newsletter anymore?”
The answer usually is because you have changed your e-mail address. For example you changed iamkingofthenet@aol.com to kingofthegeeks@att.net and now you don’t get your daily newsletter.
Fixing that problem is no biggie. Just go under that “My Account” menu and select “Change my E-mail.”
You will get a little message that says:
Currently, your e-mail address is _______. Use the form below to change your e-mail address. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the new address before the change is complete. You will have to click on a link in that e-mail to finish changing your e-mail address.
Simple, no sweat.
That probably will fix your newsletter dilemma unless you are using an mtsu.edu e-mail or some other account that has anti-spam software. In that case you should follow the directions offered by your provider for adding e-mail addresses to your address book, etc.
Is your head hurting yet?
If not, one more Web tip.
There’s a red menu bar at the top of murfreesboropost.com’s home page. Items include News, Interactive, Special Section and so forth. Many of those categories have drop-down menus. If you “hover’ your cursor over “News” for example, you see “Local News, Business, Living Here, Sports and Community Voices.” Those are links to all of the stories in each section.
So if you want to read “Stephen Lewis,” go to News, Community Voices and there he is in all his ugliness.
That’s enough for today. |
