Here’s hoping that the swine flu fizzles out like it did in 1976. I had my shot then; wonder if it’s still good.

Can’t help but wonder why anyone would want a tornado warning siren in their neighborhood.

They are loud when you are outside, but hard to hear inside at least in most circumstances. My house is close enough to barely hear the MTSU siren and I did hear it on Good Friday moments after the tornado passed overhead and touched down in the Tomahawk Trail area.

Emergency Management experts say that weather radios are the way to go. A quality radio costs less than $40 and can be easily programmed to issue warnings for Rutherford County only. It is much more likely to awake you at night that a siren a mile away.

But what if my power goes out? The radio has a battery back-up unlike your TV and most computers.

Things learned on late night TV:

Rock stars = ugly. Pop stars = pretty.

Obama is our most televised president … ever.

One good side effect of the recession is that “Girls Gone Wild” commercials have almost disappeared from cable TV. One bad side effect is that apparently the majority of Americans need a supercharged laxative and that most men need some kind of ED treatment. These must be trying times for anyone named Ed. “Yep, they call him Ed, old erectile dysfunction himself.”

The future of TV is sitting on many of your laps. (No, not your significant other) Did you know that you can watch movies, favorite TV shows on the Internet free with limited commercial interruptions?

If you didn’t, check out www.hulu.com or any of the major networks’ Web sites. Yep, the networks are finally fighting back. You could get rich inventing a “TiVo” for your laptop. When the DVR malfunctioned recently, there was General Hospital ready to watch on www.abc.com. However, in many cases, programs aren’t available until the following day.

On www.cbs.com, you can watch some of that network’s classic TV shows like “Twin Peaks.” What a flashback! Now I remember why I loved – and hated – that program.

Shazzam. No word on “Green Acres” however. But if you liked “Have Gun Will Travel” back in the day you are in luck.

That should keep you busy for a while.

One interesting thing to come out of a murfreesboropost.com online poll about favorite Mexican restaurants is that many patrons know the eateries more by location that actual name. For example “that Mexican restaurant on Greenland with the patio” instead of La Siesta.

In my own “entourage” someone referred to Garcia’s as Gracias. I will have to get back to you about that one.

Those of you who have daughters who are seniors in high school are discovering just how hard it is to find a basic black dress this time of year, especially one that’s not to short, not too long and that doesn’t reveal too much under a somewhat plunging graduation gown neck. T’ain’t easy.
