••• I absolutely cannot imagine how weather could be any more enjoyable than it’s been the past several days.
I really like the seasons, well except for winter, but goodness, I think I could deal with Friday’s incredible sunshine, cool breeze and mild temperatures year round.
Let’s try it for a couple of years and see. •••
Only in America: The President of the United States plans to give a televised speech to the nation’s school children to urge them to apply themselves and study hard and it produces a political uproar. Amazing.
••• Except for the news, I could have rented out my televisions this summer.
Finally, fall arrives and brings mucho football games to watch if nothing else.
Like a lot of folks I am fired up about the Titans’ prospects this season.
As a season ticket holder (cheap seats, well, cheap for Titan games, I am glad the preseason rip-off is finally over.
The NFL is just shameless in cheating fans by charging full price for preseason games. I don’t remember if I saw the new skinny LenDale White on the field except for one play this preseason.
If we are going to watch second and third teams and bunch of guys who will be no-team, should we be charged second-team prices?
Oh, well, money’s gone and real season is here.
Again, I’m excited about the prospects, but the Titans’ tough schedule doesn’t seem likely to produce another 13-3 season.
Geez, they will play the AFC Super Bowl Champions Tour: At Pittsburgh, at New England, at Indy.
On the other hand, we weren’t expecting a lot last year and look what happened.
That’s what makes it exciting.
••• If ESPN is going to keep Lou Holtz on its college football announcing staff, shouldn't he at least appear in a clown uniform in the interest of integrity and forthrightness? Notre Dame in the championship game? Not to slam ND that seems to be rebuilding its fortunes, but the Irish still have some steps to climb. What would make Holtz make such a ridiculous statement except he coached there? If he can't put that kind of stuff aside he has no business in the booth. OK, just remove that "if" qualifier. Or dress him appropriately.
••• The H1N1 virus, commonly referred to as swine flu, better be taken seriously.
We don’t need to go crazy but we would be well served to get flu shots, wash our hands regularly and do all those common sense precautions we are usually advised to do later in the year.
Older geezers like me seem to have a bit more resistance to the threat but younger folk need to be smart. |
