Summer has finally arrived.
The heat index in Middle Tennessee will be in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees for the rest of the week and over the weekend.
An area of high pressure will dominate the midstate region over the next few days and coupled with dewpoints in the upper 60s will result in heat index values in the mid-90s to near 100.
The upper-level high-pressure center creating this hot weather will be centered over the Mississippi Valley region and slowly shift westward.
These conditions will persist until a cool front moves through the area monday evening.
Areas along the Tennessee River will experience the highest heat indices some of which may reach or exceed 100 degrees.
Remember to take necessary precautions to protect from heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Do not leave children or pets in cars unattended as temperatures can reach well into the triple digits within a vehicle even after only a few minutes.
