NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee redshirt senior forward Alysha Clark was picked as the February 22 Sun Belt Player of the Week it was announced by the league office Monday.
Clark's honor is the 11th of her Blue Raider career and fifth this season. She moves within one of Western Kentucky's Crystal Kelly's overall league record of 12, set during a four-year span from 2005-08. Clark's awards have been presented in just two years, 2009 and 2010.
The All-American from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., averaged a remarkable 41.5 ppg and 16.0 rpg in the two Middle Tennessee games this past week. She capped the week with a Senior Day performance of 47 points, breaking her own Murphy Center record Sunday on 22-of-32 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers against South Alabama. She hauled in 13 rebounds in the game, eight on the offensive glass, while tying a career high with six assists. She added three blocked shots and three steals in her final home performance.
Clark began the week with a 36-point, 19-rebound effort at Troy Wednesday to fall one short of her career best for boards. She converted 13-of-19 field goals and 10-of-12 free throws, while posting a career-best tying six assists and adding five steals against the Trojans.
The two double-doubles give her 70 in her career, moving into seventh place on the NCAA's all-time list for career double-doubles. She also jumped five spots on the school's career scoring list, moving from 12th at the beginning of the week to eighth with 1,546 points in just two seasons at Middle Tennessee.
Clark's five honors in 2009-10 tie former Blue Raider Amber Holt for the second most in a single season, trailing only the six Clark had collected during the 2008-09 campaign.
Her accolade is the 24th under head coach Rick Insell since he took the reigns of the program prior to the beginning of the 2005-06 season. The 24 honors are six more than the next closest school among the 71 overall awards presented during the time frame.
Clark will join the rest of her Middle Tennessee teammates as they hit the road for Miami, Fla., to face FIU at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
