The La Vergne Middle School Red Hawks are playing host to the Rutherford County Middle School Basketball Tournament beginning at noon Saturday.

There will be six games this weekend and four games beginning at 4 o’clock Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

On Friday, the girl’s consolation game will be at 4 p.m., followed by the boy’s consolation at 5:30 p.m. The girl’s championship will be at 7 p.m. and boy’s championship at 8:30 p.m.

This has been a good year for middle school basketball and the 11-school, 22-team league finally has regular season winners.

At last check the Rock Springs girls were 14-0 for the season, unbeaten at 10-0 in league play and No. 1 in the league.

Coach Terry Patient has directed the Knights to the league’s only unbeaten record. The reward is a No. 1 seed and a game at 7:30 Monday night.

The Christiana Cougars finished second at 9-1. Oakland was third at 8-2. Rockvale and the defending champion Blackman Flames were tied for fourth at 6-4.

The boys were even closer as the Rockvale Ravens, Stewarts Creek and Siegel tied for first at 8-2 while Oakland,

Blackman and Whitworth-Buchanan all finished at 6-4.

There are some coin flips in our future to break these ties.

Check out the weekly schedule for Saturday’s games and for game times the other four nights.
