Buchanan-Whitworth Middle School and Oakland Middle School are on track to open in time for the next school year in August.

“The middle schools are on schedule to be open for next August,” Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said.

The Rutherford County Board of Education will get a full update on the building process of the schools at its monthly meeting Thursday night.

Despite some set backs because of cold weather and the holidays, good progress is being made on both schools.

At Buchanan-Whitworth, the skeleton of the building is almost complete, as is utility work and the road leading to the school.

At Oakland Middle, the core of the building is almost complete and wall rough in is underway throughout the school. Water and sewer service is mostly complete.

Masonry work on both schools will begin when weather permits.
