Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department was recently awarded funds from a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant to purchase 2,500 smoke alarms for free distribution and installation for the citizens of Murfreesboro.
MFRD purchased dual detection smoke alarms which utilize ionization and photoelectric sensors. The combination smoke alarms are responsive to both flaming and smoldering fires.
The department also obtained 100 audio/visual smoke alarms and 100 “bed-shakers” for the elderly, disabled, and hearing-impaired. This new campaign coincides with MFRD’s Project S.A.F.E. program, implemented in 2000, promoting “Smoke Alarms for Everyone.”
Smoke alarms will be available beginning Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Stop by your nearest fire station or call Fire Administration at 615-893-1422.
Citizens in need of audio/visual alarms or “bed-shakers” will be placed on a list and appointments will be scheduled for installation and brief education on usage of these special alarms. |
