Men accused of assaulting deputies

TMP Reports

Two sheriff’s deputies accused suspects of assaulting them during separate incidents with the past week.

Off-duty Deputy James M. Goney, who is the courtesy officer for a Bradyville Pike apartment complex, reported he arrived home with his daughter and fiancée Thursday to find three boys slow walking in front of his personal vehicle.

One of the boys told Goney he was visiting his grandmother. His two companions tried to get him to leave but he refused.

“As I got on my cell phone, he pushed me, at which time an altercation ensued and I explained to him he was under arrest,” Goney reported. As he tried to take the boy to the ground, “I was tackled by the other males.”

When Goney got up to retrieve his duty weapon, the boys ran. He caught the boy he tried to arrest but the boy resisted. His grandmother yelled for him to listen to Goney.

Murfreesboro Police took the boy into custody. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. A hearing is set this week in Juvenile Court.

In an unrelated case, Deputy Will Lehew answered a possible domestic assault call June 26 on Keystone Drive. An intoxicated, naked man answered the door.

Lehew accused the man of screaming at him, sticking his finger in his face and lunging at him.

Deputy Steven Craig charged the man later with domestic assault.
