The U.S. Department of Education has named McFadden School of Excellence one of only four 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools from Tennessee.
McFadden is a magnet school serving grades K-5.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program award recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or make notable improvements toward those standards. McFadden won the award for high achievement.
All four of the state’s winning schools are from Middle Tennessee. In addition to McFadden, the other winners are Holy Rosary Academy and Meigs Middle Magnet School, both of which are located in Nashville, and Thomas Magnet School in Shelbyville.
The last Rutherford County school to receive the award was Holloway High School in 2006 in the improvement category under former principal Ivan Duggin.
