The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County continues to create educational opportunities for gardeners by hosting the fourth annual Autumn Garden Extravaganza.
Fall is a critical time in the development of lawns and gardens and the focus is on fall practices that will enhance gardens throughout the year.
The Extravaganza is held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Lane Agri Park, 315 John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro,
The day will be filled with talks and demonstrations covering a wide range of topics of interest to all gardeners.
Featured speakers are:
- Carl Herbison – a well known speaker, landscape designer and garden writer for the “Tennessee Gardener Magazine.” His topic is “No Fuss, No Muss, Try This!” He will cover a broad area in gardening including; timing with watering, pruning, water conservation, using less chemicals, recycle and compost, and tips and tricks in gardening.
- Alan Windham – Professor of Entomology and Plant Pathology, University of Tennessee. His topic is “Garden Solutions that Work: Rx for Plants.” Alan is an expert in his field and can inform you how to identify and treat plant diseases.
The Master Gardeners of Rutherford County will conduct ongoing talks and demonstrations throughout the day including topics such as: Gardening in Small Spaces; Seasonal Wreaths and Swags from Garden Plants; Planning for Next Year’s Butterfly/Humming Bird Garden; Preparing your Lawn for Next Spring and an Ask the Expert area.
Vendors with products covering all aspects of gardening will also be on hand to help with your gardening needs.
Admission is $5 for adults – children 12 and under free – and includes a light lunch and a chance to win one of the many door prizes. Tickets may be purchased at the site on the day of the event.
