Marsh wins 62nd House seat

Republican Pat Marsh carried Rutherford, Bedford and Lincoln counties in Tuesday's election for the 62nd House seat.

Marsh, Democrat Ty Cobb II and independent Christopher Brown were vying for the House seat vacated when Cobb’s brother, Curt, became Bedford County Clerk and Master.

Unofficial tallies showed Marsh with 4,931 votes, Cobb with 3,663 votes and Brown with 255 votes in the three-county district.

Rutherford County Election Administrator Hooper Penuel said unofficial vote totals showed Marsh received 178 votes for 53.45 percent, Cobb, 138 for 41.44 percent and Brown, 17,for 5.11 percent.

The Election Commission will meet Monday to certify the results.

Voters in only three county precincts in Eagleville, Rockvale and Blackman live in the 62nd District.

A pathetic example of democracy in action. A minuscule portion of the electorate voted. I don't know who is to blame, the uninteresting candidates or the apathetic voters.
