A Murfreesboro man was shot in the leg by thieves who broke into his car, according to a police report.

When two residents at 350 Treemont Drive heard glass breaking early Wednesday morning, one went to investigate and saw two men at his car, a window of which was broken. He went to confront the alleged thieves and after "a scuffle broke out" they fired while fleeing, striking his left leg and left hand, two out buildings and the Treemont Apartments sign, the report says.

The other resident brought the victim, who appeared to be in stable condition, inside until police arrived at about 2:11 a.m. Further investigation revealed two wallets and some cash were also missing from the vehicle.

Murfreesboro Police Department may be reached at (615) 849-2670. To report a crime anonymously, call Crimestoppers at (615) 893-STOP.
