A Murfreesboro man was shot in the early morning hours Sunday at Raider's Ridge Apartments on Wenlon Drive, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, MPD officers responded to a call for gunshots at the apartment complex. Upon arriving, Officer Dustin Evans saw a trail of blood leading to one of the apartments.

The apartment's occupant, Lanard Rucker, said he heard gunshots earlier and "shortly after someone was knocking on the door," Evans reported.

Rucker, 24, of Jackson, Tenn., opened the door to find Darron Brown, 21, of Murfreesboro, shot in the left leg.

"So he pulled (Brown) inside and held pressure on the wound until we arrived," Evans wrote.

Brown said he was shot after his friend, "Justin," told him someone wanted to fight, so Brown went out in the courtyard behind the apartment building, but didn't see anyone.

"He stated he yelled 'who has a problem with my friend Justin'," Evans reported.

Brown then heard a gunshot and ducked down at which time he realized he had been shot in the leg "and crawled back to the apartment."

An MPD detective processed the scene, but there no suspects at this time.
