Arguments over a marijuana debt prompted a suspect to rob the man who owed him money during a holdup Tuesday outside a grocery store, Murfreesboro Police reported.
Victim Nathan Busard of Greenland Drive told officers he owed a man $10 for marijuana and the man harassed him for the money, Officer Michael Levy reported. While sitting in his car outside Middle Tennessee Supermarket, the man sprayed Busard with pepper spray, punched him several times and robbed of his cell phone, MP3 player and the keys in the ignition of his car.
Because of the swelling in Busard’s arm, paramedics feared it might be broken and took Busard to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment, Levy reported.
The suspect went to Busard’s apartment where he encountered his girlfriend who asked where he got the keys.
“I just took them from your boyfriend and beat him up,” the suspect told the girlfriend.
He entered the bedroom for a minute, then told the girlfriend, “If your boyfriend doesn’t give me my money, I’m gonna kill him and beat the hell out of you. And I don’t care if your kids are around or not.”
Arrangements were made to change the locks on the door. Police were searching for the suspect.
