'Man of Constant Sorrow' adds additional date

'Man of Constant Sorrow' adds additional date | Arts Center of Cannon County, Event, Theater
Due to overwhelming demand for tickets, an additional performance date of Saturday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. has been added to the run of Man of Constant Sorrow.

This show delves into the backstage and personal life of two brothers, Ralph and Carter Stanley who loved to play the old-time Appalachian music they grew up listening to.

From their humble beginnings on a church pew, the brothers were determined to remain true to their musical roots even while they struggled to bring old-time music to a rock and roll world.

Directed by Scarlett Turney, this production features Luke Munday of the band “Green on the Vyne” as Ralph Stanley and old-time musician extraordinaire Mike Armistead as Carter Stanley.

Mike honed his musical skills with the likes of Bashful Brother Oswald of the Smoky Mountain Boys and the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band.

This funny and touching story contains some of the great original, classic, and traditional songs made famous by The Stanley Brothers.

It is a celebration of their enduring music. Some of the songs featured in this production are “Man of Constant Sorrow,”, “O Death,” “Rank Stranger,” “Amazing Grace,” “ How Mountain Girls Can Love,” “ White Dove,” “Angel Band,” and a host of other Stanley Brothers’ songs that will have you singing’ along and flat-footing in the aisles.

The cast includes John Tomlin and George Harper as the Clinch Mountain Boys and we welcome back to the Arts Center stage, Connie Bryant in the role of Lucy and Maggie Richardson as Jimmi.

Man of Constant Sorrow is sponsored by Franklin’s Printworks and is part of the 2009 Playhouse Season sponsored by The Old Feed Store Antique Mall and Cannon Inn of Woodbury.
