Grand jurors indicted a man on 16 counts of molesting a girl from age 11 to 15, a Murfreesboro detective reported.

Defendant Matthew C. Whitehair, 36, of St. Andrews Drive was charged with child rape and aggravated statutory rape in October, Detective Tommy Roberts reported.

“The investigation showed that Mr. Whitehair had been sexually abusing a girl the past four years,” Roberts reported. “The victim was 11 years old when the abuse started.”

After the original charges, Roberts presented evidence in 14 more cases to the grand jury this week. The grand jury returned the 16 indictments.

Whitehair was charged with three counts of child rape, 10 counts of rape and three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.

Bond was set at $500,000. Whitehair is expected to receive copies of his indictments Feb. 16 in Circuit Court.
