The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred before to 7:25 a.m. Friday.
The victim has been identified as Joshua Thomas McKenzie, 22, of 209 Richardson Ave.
MPD received a phone call Friday morning of a welfare check.
The complainant stated there was a vehicle at the corner of First Avenue and State Street with an individual slumped over in the front seat.
McKenzie was driving his 1994 White Pontiac Firebird east on State Street and was apparently shot. His car came to rest in the yard up against a tree at the South side of the house at 220 First Ave.
The official cause of death will be forwarded to our department upon the completion of the final autopsy report.
