A suspect accused of having sexual intercourse with a friend of his son was indicted on two counts of rape Tuesday, a Murfreesboro Police detective reported.
James Cha Stearns, 58, of 3830 Precious Ave., was charged with two counts of rape of a 20-year-old woman at his home, Detective Tommy Roberts reported.
The woman told Roberts she was asleep Monday at Stearns’ home in a locked bedroom when he “sexually assaulted” her, Roberts reported.
“She further stated that when she realized what was happening, Mr. Stearns got up and fled her room,” Roberts reported.
Stearns agreed to an interview at the police department.
‘Based on the evidence collected and information gathered during the interview, I decided to present the case to the grand jury the next day (Tuesday),” Roberts reported.
Grand jurors issued two indictments. Stearns was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is expected to receive copies of his indictment Aug. 17 in General Sessions Court.
