A Rutherford County man was charged with child rape after allegedly slipping a 7-year-old girl a sleeping medication and having sexual contact with her, a sheriff’s detective said Thursday.

Suspect Jacob Daniel Franks, 19, of Miller State Road in Smyrna was also charged with aggravated sexual battery of the girl, said Detective Mickey McCullough.

Franks was accused of raping the girl when she and her mother visited his mother between April 30 and May 2. McCullough learned of the allegations June 7 and interviewed Fraser June 9. Fraser denied the accusations.

The suspect met with the detective Tuesday where he gave a statement.

“He made admissions to the offenses he was charged with,” McCullough said.

Franks was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he is being held. A hearing is set July 22 in General Sessions Court.
