Man charged with assaulting 7-year-old girl

A boyfriend accused of slapping his girlfriend’s 7-year-old daughter was charged with aggravated domestic assault, a Murfreesboro Police detective reported.

Suspect Darius Settles, 19, of 1310 Rutherford Blvd. was charged with assaulting the girl, causing her face to turn red, swell and bruise, Detective Ava Radley reported.

Settles was charged based on the child’s statement and the detective’s investigation.

He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing is pending in General Sessions Court.

In another case, Officer Matt Stern reported burglars stole about $4,500 worth of property from Lisa Bailey of Pavilion Place.

Items stolen included a DVD player, about 60 DVDs, $200 cash, an engagement ring, six watches, jewelry, X Box and games, computer, DVR player, phone and digital camera.

Detectives were investigating.

In another case, Officer Robert Jamison reported vandals damaged the new tennis courts between Jan. 29 and Feb. 2 on Golf Lane. The damage appeared to be done by a vehicle but couldn’t be detected until the snow melted.

Damage was set at $300.

GEEEEZ! This week's news has been so depressing! First, a little dog has been beaten and tortured until it was beyond saving, now a little child has been slapped around by a grown man who should know better. What is wrong with these people??
