A 27-year-old man is facing multiple charges after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday when police responded to multiple reports that an erratic driver nearly crashed into two cars near a Rite Aid in Murfreesboro.

La Vergne resident Scott A. Phillips has been charged with a DUI second offense, possession of a Schedule II substance, possession of a Schedule IV substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

“I responded to 2528 Old Fort Parkway in reference to a vehicle reported as driving erratically,” Officer Zachary Ferrell reported. “The vehicle was reported by several complainants, one of who stated the vehicle almost hit two other cars.”

Upon approaching the vehicle during the traffic stop, Ferrell reported Phillips, who was seen allegedly trying to hide prescription drugs underneath the passenger seat, exhibited “drastic mood changes” throughout the interview process.

When he failed to perform field sobriety tests as demonstrated, Phillips was placed into custody and a search of his vehicle was performed.

“A search of the vehicle revealed a burnt spoon, a syringe, four Oxymorphine pills and seven Xanax pills,” Ferrell reported.

After being evaluated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Phillips was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Center, where he was held on a $6,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Thursday, Aug. 23, in General Sessions Court.
