Retired U.S. Army Maj. William M. Chapman, of Lynchburg, passed away on March 13, 2012 at the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
He was born in Fayetteville, and was raised in Lynchburg and Tullahoma. A proud Boy Scout, he achieved "Order of the Arrow", and Eagle Scout. A graduate of Tullahoma High School and Middle Tennessee State University, he was also an officer in the United States Army for 20 years, serving with the 101st Airborne. Maj. Chapman was a past Master with the Freemasons of Lynchburg, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. Maj. Chapman was preceded in death by his parents: Everett A. Chapman and Amy H. Chapman; brothers Leonard Chapman and Jack Chapman. He is survived by his wife Carol A. Goddard Chapman of Chattanooga/Murfreesboro; a son Jack Henry Chapman of Lynchburg; daughter Jessica Chapman Baldwin of Murfreesboro; brother, James "Jim" Chapman of Louisville, KY; and four grandchildren: William Bray Chapman, Emma Chapman, Bailey Baldwin, and Bennett Baldwin. The service will be held at 1pm on March 17 at Jennings and Ayers Chapel with Lenny Farmer officiating.
