On Friday, Dec. 7, the Rutherford County Courthouse comes aglow as the community comes together for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration.
But, city leaders have to find the perfect Christmas tree.
Main Street Murfreesboro is looking for an 18- to 20-foot-tall evergreen – preferably a fir, a blue spruce or Norwegian spruce – from Rutherford County for the official Christmas tree.
“We need your help,” Main Street director Kathleen Herzog said. “If you are willing to donate a tree to our historic downtown, please give Main Street a call. In addition to acknowledging your kind gift during the tree lighting, Santa promises to make all your wishes come true.”
For more information, call 615-895-1887 or e-mail Herzog at kbherzog@bellsouth.net.
The tree will be on display throughout the holiday season, beginning the night of the tree lighting.
On the night of the lighting, there will be singing, caroling, delicious treats, and of course, a visit by Santa Claus.
Merchants on the Square will also stay open late for the event. Restaurants will also offer holiday specials, and entertainment will be provided.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is one of the events that Main Street sponsors as part of its goal of maintaining, enhancing and promoting downtown as the heart of the community. |
